Prerequisites:

18 years of age

When:

Classes start March 6th and May 11, 2010

Where:

Southwest Area Rivers. Based out of Durango, CO

This course exceeds the Colorado State requirements (Colorado requirements are stricter than Arizona’s) for guide certification.

These courses are for the person who wants to be the complete guide. Skills training will include:

  • leadership
  • group dynamics
  • meal preparation
  • crew orientation
  • river rescue
  • raft rigging
  • reading river current
  • river navigation in both oar and paddle boat rafts.

Upon completion of either course you will exceed the requirements of a class III river guide (subject to completion of separate first-aid and CPR training). These are intensive courses that emphasize skill training and personal development amid the spectacular setting of deep rock canyons and river corridors. Tuition includes state certified instructors, transportation from our meeting point, life jacket, helmet and boating equipment.

Salt River River Guide Training

Guide Certification Class

Course cost is $ 775.

(March 6th-March 13th, 2010 on Arizona's Upper Salt River Canyon, and May 19th-23rd, 2010 in Durango, Colorado)

This 12-day course is designed to familiarize you with all aspects of boating and the majestic Salt River canyon and its environs. The main focus will be on paddleboats although we will use two days to focus on learning how to operate and rig oar boats.

Skills learned will include: leadership, group dynamics, and decision-making, organizing and rigging.

The standard course emphasizes river-reading techniques rather than memorization of set routes. This enables our trainees to guide on class III water anywhere, not just on those sections previously run. Classes include instructors, transportation, life jacket, helmets, and boating equipment.

It is highly recommended that participants take advantage of our thermal package, which includes: wetsuit, booties, and splash jacket. This package costs $50 for the course.

Full payment is due at time of enrollment

Cancellation Policy: 85% refund with 14 days notice prior to start date.

Completing guide school does not guarantee a job with Mild to Wild.

We recommend arriving with current first-aid and cpr certifications.
