Salt River Guide Training

This class will not occur in 2012.

Dates: March 5th-March 13th, 2011 on Arizona's Upper Salt River Canyon, and May 18th-22rd, 2011 in Durango, Colorado.

March 5th and March 13th are travel days from Durango to the Salt River and back.

Course cost is $775.

The main focus will be on paddleboats although we will use two days to focus on learning how to operate and rig oar boats. Additional skills learned will include: leadership, group dynamics, and decision-making, organizing and rigging.

This course emphasizes river-reading techniques rather than memorization of set routes. This enables our trainees to guide on class III water anywhere, not just on those sections previously run.

Tuition Includes:

  • Certified instructors.
  • PFD. (Life Jacket)
  • Helmets.
  • Boating Equipment.
  • Meals: Beginning with dinner on March 5th and ending with dinner on Saturday, March 12th.  Feel free to bring additional snacks. If traveling with us to the river, please pack a lunch for the drive down.
  • Transportation: To and from Durango to the Salt River and all the river shuttles

    • During the course we will be camping all nights.
    • Students may bring their own cars to our Salt River Base Camp.

It is highly recommended that participants take advantage of our thermal wetsuite package, which includes: wetsuit, booties, and splash jacket. This package costs $50 for the course.

Full payment is due at time of enrollment

Cancellation Policy: 85% refund with 14 days notice prior to start date.

* If water levels are not sufficient on the Salt River the course will be moved to another southwest river and will assemble in our Durango office rather than our Salt river office.
